The first one is lyrical hip-hop. I don't do extensive research on lyrical, but this quote below should help all of you:
"The goal of the lyrical dancer is to convey the emotion of a song’s lyrics. Intense emotional expression of the face and body are necessary to tell a story that evolves along the lines of the song to which lyrical dance is performed."
The second one is expressionist dance. The one that i did. Can be said as my favourite. Well, for this i can share with u some things. This dance plays around with ur gestures. We love to make dramatic gestures with facial expressions that will tell the story of the dance piece. Expressionist dance is related to contemporary. Therefore, if u notice, when i did the zulu tribe dance intro, it was not focused much on technique; it's the body movement. The way u tell the story is important. The emotions such... am i supposed to feel sad? or am i supposed to be desperate and praying for the harvest?..all this plays an important role.
One of the differences between LYRICAL and EXPRESSIONIST is that lyrical dance is often performed with toes pointed in partner lifts or in leg lifts. However, expressionist dance, as i say earlier on is more of DRAMATIC MOVEMENTS.
To me, acting(facial expression) is vital for both dance forms, in order for the dance piece to be performed properly.
