Hi guys..
I am gonna share with the juniors my real life as a modern dancer.
How it all begin....
Ok...i was actually involved more towards sports ever since i was born. There was no real passion or interest towards dance or the performing arts. When i entered NVSS, softball was my CCA. After a low attendance turnout, many quit softball. After quitting, i was taught the importance of CCA in secondary school students to get to JC,etc. Therefore, i was offered TWO CCAs, Modern Dance and Tri Touch club. My friend and I decided to TRY OUR LUCK and went for the auditions. I rememered when i entered, it was full of great dancers and i am a total foreigner in this arts field. But i did my stuff and SOMEHOW i went in. I was selected. So initially it was not passion which drives me to join dance, it was future after i graduate from NVSS.
Then what happened?
Then things changed drastically. Dance was another form in which i expressed myself. It was something beyond extraordinary. I enjoyed it. I met FUNNY AND INTERESTING friends along the way. They are great peple i tell u. Till now, the bond is even STRONGER THAN SUPERGLUE. And then i met one of the most PASSIONATE teachers i have ever seen. Who else but Ms Zu. And also the MOST CARING teacher, Ms Juriah(no longer in school). And of course, the MOST TALENTED person i have ever met, Ryan. I was in a group of extraordinary people.
Then comes SYF 2005. I was not the initial tribe leader. It was another guy. But the paths change and SOMEHOW i became the tribe leader. When i first tried out the character, i SUCK BIG TIME. There was simply no LIFE to it. No EXPRESSION. This is where PASSION and HARDWORK comes in place. I literally went to see videos and try to pick up some steps. I listened to the music and try to UNDERSTAND the story. MAKE THE STORY ALIVE. that was my TASK. MAKE THE STORY ALIVE. I wen to the mirror and practiced my EXPRESSIONS. That was how much i wanted to satisfy my passion.
Ms Zu bonded us even GREATER with her own unique ways. I remember the ENERGY PASS, DRAWINGS, AND we had to lie on the floor, eyes closed and listen to the music. We could feel THE ENERGY and THE BOND. It was a great experience.
Fast Forward....
After clinching the GOLD for SYF 2005, things went the way we did not expect. CCAs were against us. SOME CCAs. I am not mentioning, cause i believe their accusations are COMPLETELY A SHAME TO THEMSELVES. One of the greatest moments we had was the Speech Day, if i'm not wrong in 2005. We told ourselves that we want to prove those people that we TRULY DESERVE the achievement. Speech Day was a great performance. After the performance, it was the FIRST time, i saw a standing ovation by some audience. We HUGGED and CRIED after that. Cause we know we DID it. It all come in the MENTALITY. Our STRONG MENTALITY and BOND. When each and everyone of us BELIEVE we can do it, We have done it.
So juniors, NEVER give up for your SYF 2007. Your seniors are behind you. Do this for YOURSELVES and the rest of MODERN DANCE. You have GOOD and CARING teachers with YOU, Ms Zu and Mr Tan. Prove to us that you guys are prepared and will WORK HARD to achieve success. BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES. EACH AND EVERYONE of you.
Remember that you're not alone.We LOVE you.
